Website migration
Two Scoops Web's migration add-on moves your words and photos off your current site and into your new one, and matches each old page to its new home. We take a free look at your site first, then quote the move before you sign anything.
What moves to your new site
When Two Scoops Web migrates your site, the words and photos worth keeping come across, the contact form is set up again, your visitor stats come across where your platform lets them, and each old page is matched to its new one.
What to keep
We check which pages are still accurate and still used.
Your words
The pages and posts on the keep list come across to the new site.
Your photos
The ones you uploaded come across as files.
Your contact form
We set it up again on the new site, so it works for every visitor.
Your visitor stats
If they come from a separate stats service, we connect it to the new site, history and all. Stats built into your old platform stay there. Your new site has its own, showing where calls and form fills come from.
Your old page addresses
We work out where each old address should land on the new site, even for pages that get cut.
Every build, moved or new, is built so Google and AI tools can read it, and every old address points to its new page. The add-on doesn't charge for either. The full list is on what's included in the price.
Google says most pages on a small or medium-sized site can take a few weeks to catch up after a move, and rankings can go up and down in that time.
What stays behind on your old platform
A Two Scoops Web migration moves your content, so the old platform, its theme, its plugins and its design settings stay behind.
- WordPress exports posts, pages, categories and tags, but not the theme or plugins. On WordPress.com, the export only links to your photos, so the old site has to stay up until they're copied.
- Squarespace exports regular pages, one blog, and their words and images. Store, portfolio, calendar and album pages, video, style settings and custom styling don't come with it. Products and contacts come out as spreadsheets.
- Wix says your site "must run on Wix's servers," and blog posts can't be exported. The content is still yours, Wix says. Products, contacts, form entries and collections come out as spreadsheets too. Free stock photos from inside Wix can't be downloaded, so those get replaced.
Pages, posts and photos that don't export get copied from the live site, and the quote counts them. An online store doesn't come across, because we don't build them. Your new site can link to the checkout or booking tool you already use.
How the free look at your site works
Two Scoops Web looks over your current site for free before quoting a migration, and you get the quote before you sign anything.
Send us your site's address.
That's all we need. Mention it on the Start a build form.
We count what's there.
We look at the pages, posts, photos and forms on your site, and at what your platform can export.
You get a quote.
It lists the parts we counted. If you'd rather not go ahead, it cost you nothing.
If you go ahead, we check what's worth keeping.
You give us a look at your visitor stats and your Google search numbers, so we can see which pages are still accurate and still used.
You approve the list.
Nothing moves until you've signed off on what's kept, what's cut and what moves.
Your current site stays up the whole time. What happens to your current site has more.
What a website migration costs
A website migration from Two Scoops Web is quoted after we've looked at your site, because the price depends on how many pages there are to keep or cut, how many old addresses to match, and the photos, visitor stats and contact form to move.
We moved a site off WordPress. "Even with an export content had to be refreshed." The job took a full content check using the site's visitor stats and Google search numbers, old page addresses matched to new ones, refreshed images, the visitor stats moved over and the contact form set up again.
Your site has its own count of those parts. We count them first, and the quote follows the count. Rewriting the words is content writing, quoted on its own.
The build stays at its published price either way. Or bring your own export, where your platform offers one, and there's no migration to quote. Keeping the new site online runs about $20 a month, and we set that up for you.
Just a lot of moving parts.
