Two Scoops Web

Moving off WordPress

Two Scoops Web builds your business a new website to replace your WordPress site, designed for you and built so Google and AI tools can read it. Fixed price for the build, from $1,500. If you'd like your words and photos moved over for you, we quote that after a free look.

What WordPress does well

WordPress is free software that people without much tech experience can use out of the box, and it has thousands of plugins, add-ons that give a site extra features.

In WordPress's own words, "People with a limited tech experience can use it 'out of the box', and more tech-savvy folks can customize it in remarkable ways."

WordPress comes two ways. You can run it on a web host you pay for, or let WordPress.com run it for you. WordPress.com keeps WordPress up to date for you. If you run your own and WordPress is doing what your business needs, those are good reasons to stay.

What keeping a WordPress site safe takes

A WordPress site you run yourself stays safer when three things are kept up to date: WordPress itself, its plugins and its theme.

WordPress's own security guide says old versions don't get security fixes.

Small security updates to WordPress install themselves on most sites. Big releases wait for someone to click Update. The docs say to back up first, and they warn that a plugin that hasn't kept up with the latest WordPress may not work with it.

Your web host often looks after the server. WordPress's guide says hosts aren't responsible for the software you put on it. So somebody has to keep up with the updates, you or a person you pay.

A Two Scoops Web site doesn't run on WordPress, so there's no WordPress, plugin or theme to update. Like any website, it still needs a security update now and then. With Care, those are ours to handle. Without Care, we email you when one's needed.

Nobody can promise a website will never be hacked, ours included.

If you ever decide to go it alone, we move everything to you or anyone you choose.

What you get when you leave WordPress

When you move off WordPress to Two Scoops Web, you get a new site designed for your business and built so Google and AI tools can read it, with someone to look after it if you want.

  • Designed for your business

It's made to look good and be easy to use, on a phone or a laptop.

  • Fast and secure

Pages open quickly on a phone, and we tell you when a security update is needed.

  • Readable by Google and AI

Your prices, hours and services sit in the page itself, where Google and AI tools can read them.

  • A way in for every visitor

Your email address, a contact form and, if you take bookings, a plain booking link. Anyone can use them, including an AI assistant working for your customer.

  • Calls and form fills

You can see where each one comes from.

  • Looked after, if you want

With Care, we check the site is running as it should and make one change a month that you ask for.

No one can promise you a spot in Google or in AI answers, and we don't.

What comes with you and what stays behind

Moving off WordPress brings your posts, pages and photos with you, and leaves the theme, the plugins and WordPress itself behind.

Comes with you

  • Your posts and pages, with their categories and tags. WordPress can save them in one file, called an export.
  • Your photos. They're saved from your live site, so it stays up until they're across. On WordPress.com, the export only links to them.
  • Your web address. It can stay the same, and we go over it with you.
  • Your old links. Every old page address points to its new page, so links people saved still work. That comes with every build.

Stays behind

  • The theme. Your new design replaces it.
  • The plugins. Each one did a job, so it helps to list what yours do. A contact form plugin becomes the new site's form. If a booking plugin connects to a booking service you already use, the new site links to it.
  • Old blog comments. They stay in your export file.
  • An online store. We don't build stores, but we can point you to someone who does. If you sell through a checkout service, a plain link to it comes with the build.

Your WordPress site stays up until the new one goes live. We build new, so we don't work on the old site.

What moving off WordPress costs

Moving off WordPress to Two Scoops Web costs a fixed build price, $1,500, $3,500 or $6,500, and if you want us to move your content, that's quoted on top after a free look.

Discovery holds 6 pages, Publisher 12 and a blog, and Coverage 24 and a blog, on top of home, about, contact, terms and privacy. A blog needs Publisher or Coverage, so a WordPress blog fits one of those. A bigger site is Custom.

The price holds with nothing moved for you. You talk for about 30 minutes on a recorded video call (two calls on Coverage) and fill in a short form, and we write it up. You bring the photos. If you send us a WordPress export, we work from it too.

Each build is paid in two halves: half to start, the rest before the site goes live. Keeping it online runs about $20 a month, and we set that up for you. The whole picture is on what a website costs.

If you'd rather we move your content, that's migration. Every WordPress site has its own count of pages, old addresses, photos and forms, so we look at yours for free and quote the move before you sign.
